Charles Beauclerk is an author and lecturer on literary and historical topics, who graduated from Oxford with a first-class degree in modern languages. He also tutors in English language and literature (specializing in Shakespeare), and Latin. After a stint in the language reference department of Routledge publishers, he spent six years lecturing on Shakespeare in North America, becoming president of the Shakespeare Oxford Society. His venues there included Harvard, Yale, M.I.T., the Smithsonian and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. On his return to England he acted as literary assistant to the poet and philosopher Nicholas Hagger at Otley Hall in Suffolk.
He is co-founder of the Shakespeare Academy, a vice-president of the Royal Stuart Society, and was a trustee of the Shakespearean Authorship Trust for 25 years. His biography of Nell Gwyn was published by Macmillan in 2005, followed in 2010 by Shakespeare’s Lost Kingdom: The True History of Shakespeare and Elizabeth, published by Grove Press. Charles also featured in the recent documentary about the Shakespeare authorship question, Last Will and Testament. His biography of the pianist John Ogdon, Piano Man, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2014 and shortlisted for the Spear Book Awards.
